3rd Annual Educational Forum for Design Professionals

This annual event offers the A&D community the opportunity to earn up to 6-CEU credits: AIA, NKBA, IDCEC (ASID, IIDA, NDICQ) in one day! It covers a broad range of topics including: energy-efficient developments in residential lighting, advances in plumbing, sustainable surface finishes, best practices in accessible design & construction, and more. The event caps off with A Creative Dialogue between Marc Kushner, co-founder and partner HWKN architects and Archie Lee Coates, IV, founder PlayLab, Inc/creator+Pool in the Poliform showroom; and is followed by cocktails in GE Monogram Design Center. Architectural Digest Home Design Show

It’s tradeshow time! We’re headed to NYC’s west-side later this month to check out the best in home design. With more than 400 premium brands, this four-day event (produced by Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., hosted by Architectural Digest, and co-sponsored by The New York Times) is a marketplace for the industry’s top professionals and discerning consumers and covers a range of categories including: home furnishings, accessories, art, kitchen and bath products, flooring, fabric, lighting, outdoor products, and more. Thursday’s trade day schedule offers great programming including Margaret Russell’s keynote presentation on Trends in Interior Photography (4-5PM), a show-wide opening reception with complimentary architecture-and-design-themed cocktails (5-7PM) and DIFFA’s Cocktails by Design (7PM-10PM). Also on our agenda: IFDA’s “Vision to the Future” seminar (Friday, 12:30-1:30PM), Modenus’ Photo Find Contest (Daily, Booth 105) and The New York Times Conference Program (Friday-Sunday, Show Theater).

Panelists include David Ashen of d-ash design whose recent work with Godiva has gained international acclaim, Faris Al-Shathir of Boffo whose Fashion's Night Out collaborations became the talk of the town and Courtney Kemper of Tiffany & Co. whose work with the iconic brand in an ever changing world is as exciting as the little blue box.



I2nd Annual Metropolis State of Design: Slow Down + Move Fast

What better way to spend a Wednesday night than by listening to an open, constructive dialogue about what shapes twenty-first century design and how designers respond to our evolving culture. The interactive session will be moderated by Metropolis EIC, Susan S. Szenasy. Presenters include Metropolis 2012 Game Changers: Ruth Finkelsetin, ScD, Vice President for Health Policy, The New York Academy of Medicine and Katie Salen, Professor of Games and Digital Media at DePaul University, and former Director of the Center for Transformative Media. The fundraising event, benefitting the Education Legacy Fund (ELF), is geared to support the future of the interior design profession and celebrate students.
